El Instituto Gemológico Español es una asociación sin ánimo de lucro fundada en el año 1967 por los joyeros y gemólogos de toda España, con el propósito de estudiar y difundir la gemología, investigar y crear un laboratorio de certificación de gemas.
Actualmente cuenta con más de 400 socios de todo el mundo y es la principal institución gemológica en España.
El IGE está asociado a las escuelas de gemología europeas de primer nivel, así como a las asociaciones profesionales más importantes del sector.
Nuestras principales actividades son: control de calidad, investigación, formación, divulgación, tasación y apoyo al reconocimiento profesional de gemólogos.

The Spanish Gemological Institute (IGE, Instituto Gemológico Español) is a non-profit association founded in 1967 with the aim to study, teach and promote gemmology in Spain. Currently it has more than 400 associated jewelry and gemology professionals and firms in Spain and other countries.
IGE offers different presential and distance learning courses in Spanish, such as Gemology Diploma, Diamond Diploma, Coloured Stones Grading, Jewelry Valuation, Jewelry Design, History of Jewelry, Gem Cutting, and others. It is also one of the founding members of FEEG (Federation for European Education in Gemology), an association of the most important European gemological schools.
IGE Gem Testing Laboratory was founded in 1969 and currently it is the most prestigious center for quality control of precious stones in Spain. Equipped with most advanced analytic techniques and highly qualified staff, it offers quality control and analysis of gemstones to firms and particulars on a regular basis.
Aside from thousands of gems used for teaching proposes, IGE also has an impressive collection of unique gems, permanently exposed in the Don Felipe de Borbón y Grecia Museum of Madrid School of Mines.
Other IGE facilities include extended library with most important gemology and jewelry books and magazines, weekly conferences on gemology and related areas, activities for kids, travels and excursions, etc.
